Communication majors have a vital role to play in organizations across industries. At Queens, you’ll learn the foundational skills and cutting-edge strategies you need to succeed in the field. You’ll work with traditional and new forms of media while learning essential communications principles and strategies that will carry you forward no matter what future path you choose.

And you’ll benefit from the numerous opportunities available on campus and in the broader Charlotte community: The Queens News Service, for instance, allows students to create and distribute news content to multiple news organizations in the Queen City, and Charlotte is home to major media organizations, from ESPN to American City Business Journals, and Fortune 500 corporations, where communications is considered a vital skill.

Meet Caroline Willingham ’23

Caroline Willingham ’23 immersed herself fully in the Queens Communication experience during her time on campus. She was a major contributor to the Queens News Service and served as a researcher on an Emmy-winning documentary. Now, she is a producer-in-residence at TV news station WLTX in Columbia, SC.   • At Queens, you’ll become an effective communicator who can work in a variety of roles, from social media to corporate and community organizations.
  • You can explore specialized courses in interpersonal communication, organizational communication, and strategic communication.
  • You’ll also get real-world experience, with senior projects that leverage your communication knowledge and skills to promote social change.
  • Many students also choose to pursue the Knight School’s accelerated BA/MA program and complete both a bachelor’s and a master’s in communication in just 5 years.

Accelerated MA in Communication (MACom)

Queens offers an accelerated pathway for qualified Communication students who want a faster route to a graduate degree. Eligible students may receive an invitation after admission, complete an intent-to-enroll form, and receive personalized advising to stay on track. Students apply formally by the end of their sophomore year and complete the pathway in the 3.5 + 1 format.
