Tobacco-Free Campus

Queens University of Charlotte is committed to providing its students, faculty, staff, vendors, contractors, and visitors with a safe and healthy working and learning environment and recognizes that the use of tobacco products on campus grounds is detrimental to the health and safety of students, staff, faculty, and visitors.

Effective August 1, 2022:

  1. Smoking and the use of all tobacco products on campus by any individual (including faculty, staff, students, vendors, contractors, visitors, individuals who rent event space) is strictly prohibited. This applies in all campus buildings, facilities, or property (including vehicles) owned, leased, or operated by Queens University, including outside areas.
  2. “Tobacco” or “tobacco product(s)” includes combustible and noncombustible products, including but not limited to: cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, electronic cigarettes, hookahs, smoked or vaped tobacco substitutes, chewing tobacco, snuff, snus, dissolvable tobacco products, heated tobacco products, and any other nicotine product irrespective of whether the nicotine in that product is synthetic or tobacco-derived.
  3. Tobacco products do not include nicotine replacement products approved by the FDA for treatment of tobacco use and dependence.
  4. The sale or free distribution of tobacco products, including merchandise, is prohibited on campus and at school.
  5. Student organizations are prohibited from accepting money or gifts from tobacco companies, including parties or events sponsored by tobacco companies or allowing tobacco companies to distribute free, reduced-price, or fully-priced tobacco products (t-shirts, hats, etc.) on campus.
  6. Tobacco advertisements are prohibited in university-run publications and on grounds or facilities, including athletic facilities, owned or used by Queens University of Charlotte.

Failure to comply with Queens’ Tobacco-Free Campus policy is a community Honor Code violation and will be addressed as such for students. For faculty and staff, violation of this policy will result in the initiation of the university’s written Counseling for Improved Performance process.
