General Questions

The initial step is to communicate with your roommate in a calm and kind manner to try to fix an issue. In some situations, roommates may need further assistance in navigating these conflicts that exist. In those cases, students can reach out to their RA for assistance. RAs are trained in conflict mediation and can often help students resolve difficult situations and to create a more comfortable environment for all.

First year students are required to fill out a roommate contract. Returner students are not required to but are encouraged. A roommate contract can help to set roommate expectations and prevent conflict in the future. You can find the roommate contract form on the Self-Service website.

No, students are not permitted to change rooms before the Open Room Change period facilitated by Residence Life occurs. This is usually 4-6 weeks into the semester. If conflicts arise before this time you can speak directly to your roommate to fill out a roommate contract, or if you feel as though you require further help, you can reach out to your RA to do a roommate mediation.

Animals are not permitted in residence halls, even for one night, unless they are an ESA or Service Animal. In order to have one approved you will need to go through Student Accessibility Services (sashelp@queens.edu).

There are a limited number of single rooms on campus. During the housing selection process, you can choose to be in one of these rooms. If they are filled up before you are able to pick one, you can try to move into one during Open Room Change.

Campus Services at Queens is responsible for housekeeping and repairs to our on-campus buildings. You may submit a service request by contacting the Resident Assistant on their floor.

If you live on campus, yes. Students are required to have a meal plan.

While all furniture in rooms is moveable, we ask that students do not remove any furniture from the space.

Yes! As you prepare to join us on campus and settle in your room, we do offer bed lofting services. Students, families, and guests should not attempt to loft a bed on their own. This will prevent accidental injury and damage to campus furniture that you would then be responsible for. Additionally, some beds require a lofting kit that Campus Services has access to.
