Biography

Dr. Tiffiny Shockley is deeply passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals. She is an accomplished educator and health professional with over 20 years of experience spanning various healthcare settings. She currently holds the position of Assistant Professor and Health Science Lead at Queens University of Charlotte, where she provides oversight and leadership to the health science program.

Dr. Shockley’s diverse healthcare career includes working in inpatient hospital settings, long-term care nursing facilities, pharmaceutical sales, and for a durable medical equipment company. This extensive, hands-on experience grants her a unique insight into multiple facets of the healthcare field.

Dr. Shockley has obtained several professional certifications, including CPHIMS (Certified Professional in Health Information Management Systems), CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist), CHTS-CP (Certified Health Technology Specialist – Clinician Practitioner Consultant), and CPEHR (Certified Professional in Electronic Health Records).

Her expertise encompasses global health, digital health, maternal health, healthcare policy, health disparities, kidney disease, and social determinants of health. Dr. Shockley frequently presents at both national and international conferences, and she served as a keynote speaker at international conferences. She has presented her research at notable venues such as Columbia University in New York.

She is published in peer-reviewed journals and is the author of the book “Blackness: The Life and Times of an Unpopular People.”

Additionally, Dr. Shockley works with an academic accrediting agency as a program evaluator, conducting accreditation audits at colleges and universities nationwide. She also works as an independent consultant, assisting institutions in enhancing or expanding their health science and public health curricula, including helping to develop content for a public health program as far away as Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Shockley recently served as a member of the world renowned HIMSS (Health Information Management Systems Society) TIGER (Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform) taskforce, working with an international group of health professionals spanning 26 countries to develop a global health informatics certification.

She remains an ongoing reviewer for HIMSS global health conferences and the Tomorrow People public health conference series. Dr. Shockley is an editor for the Health Science Journal and holds membership in prominent professional organizations, including the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and Consortium for Universities for Global Health (CUGH).
