Conservation Biology

What You’ll Study

Conservation biology combines 1) biology and the natural variety of the world (species, ecosystem, etc.) and 2) how to address the loss of diversity. If you are interested in maintaining and restoring our world, come discover how scientists, managers, policymakers, and the public can work together for change. Learn to help these groups solve problems together.

When students graduate with this degree, they are equipped to address the big environmental questions and collaborate with others to solve issues. Our faculty mentors also thoughtfully place students in internships with local or regional conservation partners that fit with their goals.

Conservation is about science AND people, and the major highlights courses outside of science. Many students take courses like policy writing, storytelling, public health, data analytics, and environmental justice. These courses will help students apply conservation science to the world through policy, multi-media presentations, law, and more.

How Can You Use This Degree?

With this degree, you will be prepared for graduate studies, jobs in industry, research careers, or teaching biology at the secondary level (9-12). Students who complete this major will be preparing themselves for:

  • Private or public sector careers in conservation
  • Public health roles
  • Environmental management, assessment, consulting, law, or education
